The B.Com. (Accounting and Finance) Programme was introduced in the Self Financing Courses in the Academic Year 2019-20. The Department, headed by CA Ruby Parekh, has among others, qualified professionals as faculty, such as CAs, CMAs, MBAs, etc. After getting autonomy, the syllabus has been updated keeping in mind the developments in the profession of accounting and finance, industry trends and social and economic environment, with professional guidance from the Board of Studies. Besides academics, students are exposed to various activities such as Management mind games, Industrial visits, webinars and seminars, etc. BAF is a three year Under Graduate Programme offered under the Choice Based Credit System.

The Objective of the Department is to enable the learner to pursue higher education such as Chartered Accountancy / Cost & Management Accountancy / Company Secretary/Chartered Financial Analyst / MBA etc. This is because the courses included in the area of Finance are covered, but subjects like Business Communication helps to develop soft skills to put into action, the knowledge and competencies gained by the programme. The learners can pursue a career in one of the most lucrative professions in the world. Armed by the specialised knowledge in the field of Accounting and Finance, the learner can branch out into various fields such as Financial Consulting, Financial Analyst, Asset Management, Investment Banking, Financial Risk Management, Wealth Management, Portfolio Management, Business Valuation etc.

Objectives

  • The department aims at providing conceptual knowledge and application skills in the sphere of Commerce studies.
  • It also aims to sharpen the student’s analytical and decision-making ability.
  • The aim is to facilitate students with skills and abilities to become competent and assured of good careers and job placements such as Banking, Insurance, Law, Finance, Marketing.
  • To develop entrepreneurship and managerial skills in students to enable them to establish and manage their business establishments effectively.

  • The faculty of the department strives to inculcate the universal values and ethics amongst the students during the lectures which is a moral responsibility of the teacher. and emphasis is also laid on building relationship.
  • It aims at improving the thinking capacity, undertake research activities, to gain deep knowledge and better understanding of the course the assignments are given to the students as part of their internal assessment and very selective topics like, finding case studies, conducting interviews of the industry persons pertaining to the subject, internship, extension activities etc., and the students are evaluated on the basis of presentation which in turn enables them to improve their presentation skills.
