One of the oldest department in the College with largest number of students in science section. Department with well equipped laboratories to accommodate 200 students at a time. Highly experienced and qualified faculties with 9 Doctorate teaching staff and 2 post graduate teachers with NET/SET Qualification. Well equipped laboratories having Sophisticate analytical instrumental facilities like FTIR, UV-V is spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, Turbidity meter, Colorimeter, pH meter, Potentiometer, Conductivity meter etc. Department is having more than 100 reference books in Chemistry.

Objectives

  • To impart the basic knowledge of Chemistry with an overview of latest developments in the field of Chemistry.
  • To acquaint the students with latest instrumental techniques of chemical analysis.
  • To develop the expertise of the students in chemical synthesis with the help of various reaction mechanism.

A student completing Bachelor’s Degree Science Program must develop:
PO  1 Fundamental disciplinary knowledge and/or interdisciplinary approach
PO  2 Develop effective communication skills for the dissemination of scientific knowledge through written, oral and multimedia/technology based formats  
PO 3 The ability to apply broadly accepted scientific methodologies in their research project.  
PO 4 The ability to effectively communicate disciplinary knowledge to the scientific community and broader public. 

Students who complete the chemistry degree programs must develop
PSO 1 Firm foundations in the fundamentals and application of current chemical and scientific theories.
PSO 2 ability to design, carry out, record and analyze the results of chemical experiments and are familiar with standard safety practices, equipment, procedures, and techniques common to most working laboratories.
PSO 3 To use modern library searching and retrieval methods to obtain information about a topic, chemical, chemical technique or an issue relating to chemistry.
PSO 4 Competencies to successfully crack the competitive exams in life sciences
