It gives me a GREAT PLEASURE to announce two unique programmes at Bhavan’s College, Andheri –

55th Annual Vegetable, Fruit and Flower Show of National Society of the Friends of Trees in association with Bhavan’s College, Andheri and

“National Seminar on Conservation of Trees – Perspectives an Strategies” organized by Bhavan’s College, Andheri, in association with the National Society of the Friends of Trees.

30th – 31st January 2016: 55th Annual Vegetable, Fruit and Flower Show –

The Annual Vegetable, Fruit and Flower Show, conducted since the year 1957 by the Friends of Trees (FOT), will be held in association with Bhavan’s College, Andheri on 30th and 31st of January, 2016. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was established in 1938 by Kulapati Dr. Kanhaiyalal Maneklal Munshi (1887-1971), as a shrine of Indian Culture. Munshiji was one of the Patrons of the National Society of the Friends of the Trees, formerly known as Friends of the Trees, founded in 1957. His wife Mrs. Lilavati was the President of The Bhavan’s Bombay Agrihorticulture Society and this society in association with The Friends of Trees and the Israeli Consulate, organized memorable Flower Shows in the sixties. Currently, Dr. Pheroza J. Godrej is the President of the National Society of the FOT.

This year, the Vegetable, Fruit and Flower (VFF) Show will be held in the Bhavan’s Munshi Nagar Campus at Andheri and will be inaugurated on the 30th Jan at 4 pm by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mumbai, Dr. Sanjay Deshmukh and Shri Kirtidev G. Munshi (Grandson of Kulapati Munshiji) – Hon. Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

ENTRY TO THIS VFF SHOW IS FREE.

The show will be open on

Sat 30th Jan 2016 from 11 am to 8 pm &

Sun 31st Jan 2016 from 8 am to 8 pm

2nd February 2016: National Seminar on “Conservation of Trees – Perspectives and Strategies” – Supported by YES Bank

Trees form the lifeline for survival of all other life forms on land. They contribute immensely to the environment by providing oxygen, regulating temperature, recycling and retaining natural resources. Due to the pressures of increasing population, urbanisation and industrialisation, vast areas of forests are destroyed leading to depletion of natural resources resulting in climate change. This seminar is intended to address various issues related to trees, their protection and conservation. Important case studies and success stories will be highlighted to spread awareness amongst students, research scholars and teachers to orient them towards conservation action.

Eminent speakers have been invited to cover topics such as Tree Diversity, Ecological Importance of Trees, Economic Importance of Trees, Loss of Tree Diversity, Protection and Conservation of Trees and the Role of NGOs and Educational Institutions. Bhavan’s College, Andheri will conduct this National Seminar, in association with The National Society of the Friends of the Trees.

Asif Mulla, Chairman, Governing Body, Bhavan’s College, Andheri; Vice-Presidents are Dr. Vasanti Iqbal Katchi, Principal, Bhavan’s College, Andheri and Dr. Pheroza  J.
